I saw this exhibition of Lou Dorfsman’s work at the Kemistry Gallery during the Anti-Design festival. This is a print of the work he did in the CBS building in New York. It’s a whole wall of type to do with food, as it is placed in the cafe in the building. It measures a massive 11mx2.5m. It has little squares full of items built into it, like tin cans and cutlery. The letters are made from wood and sprayed white. It almost got torn down, but thank god it didn’t and it was restored instead. I love this booklet that I purchased at the exhibition, it folds out to be a complete copy of the wall design. It is just really clever and so far ahead of it’s time.
